Summary
Projek Mata Anak Kita
Free community eye care for underprivileged Malaysian children (ages 7–17 years old) living in PPR/PA public housing across Malaysia.
About the Program
VisionRDC’s Program Mata Anak Kita addresses preventable childhood vision problems that limit learning and development. In collaboration with Think City Malaysia and Jabatan Optometri, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, we train parent volunteers from each community, support school- and community-based vision screening, provide optometry examinations and free spectacles, and coordinate referrals for ophthalmology assessment and surgery. Spectacle provision is funded by Yayasan IKRAM Malaysia.
Objectives
Screen 6,000 children aged 7–17 years old from the 10 targeted PPR/PA communities within the project period.
Train at least 100 parent community volunteers to perform basic vision screening, referral, and eye-health education.
Provide comprehensive optometry examinations and prescribe appropriate corrections for all children who fail screening.
Dispense free, quality spectacles to 100% of children with refractive errors
Establish functioning referral pathways and coordinate ophthalmology assessment for all children with complex ocular conditions; facilitate surgery where clinically indicated.
Build sustainable community capacity by delivering refresher training and handover materials to local partners (Think City Malaysia, PPR/PA management, Jabatan Optometri UKM).
